Quick Tips: Recording Longer Sessions in Kore with Reaktor
Sleen’s Toolpack has a terrific live looper / recorder / sampler for audio, but it records to precious RAM and only up to 260 seconds. For those of us who like to use Kore stand-alone, there needs to be a better way to record longer pieces of audio.
There are ways to make the tapedeck module record to disk but a quicker, dirtier, easier way is to use the recorderbox built into Reaktor.

First, insert an instance of Reaktor in the Kore master channel, and wire its input directly to its output, like so:

Now in the Reaktor menu choose view -> show recorderbox:

Click the icon with a hand pointing to a sheet to set the properties:

I like to set it to record when the clock starts and stop when the clock stops. Next, click on the folder icon to choose a location and filename for your recording. That’s it, that’s all. Now hit the record button in the recorderbox, get ready to play, and start the master clock.
For perfectionists: the recorderbox records at a bit depth of 16 so if you’re working with long reverb tails and other quiet bits, and want to avoid quantization artifacts, stick in Final Prozessor v1.0 By Guenther Fleischmann, available for download in the Reaktor user library.

This is a great tool in its own right, worth investigating by anyone interested in the fine points of mastering. Also check out Guenther’s Mastering Limiter.

I cannot get the Recorder Box to show like you say. If I go to “View” I do not get a ‘Show Recorder Box’.
Are you sure this is right- it works in standalone R5 but not plgin on my system.

My apologies, Andy – this post was originally two separate ones that I edited together – one on recording in Reaktor standalone, and one on recording in Kore.
You are correct – the recorder box menu entry does not appear in the plugin version of Reaktor. Instead, insert the “stereo file recorder” instrument from the instruments menu and wire it up between the input and output in Reaktor. Double click on the wav-file module visible on the front panel of the stereo file recorder and set it to record to hard disk.
