Feedback, Routing and Modulation in Massive, with Free Patch Downloads

Last time we looked at Massive on Noisepages I covered how you can use Kore 2’s hardware controllers to get your hands on Massive’s parameters and morph song arrangements from sequenced patches.

In this video I load up Massive in Kore again for hands-on control and take a look at some creative signal routing and modulation possibilities in Massive. Feedback is something people primarily associate with rock, heaviness and sludge, but there’s something here for the meditator as well as the rockist. How about some harp feedback? Eat your heart out, Joanna Newsom.

Hey mr. tunes, if you go to the Vimeo page for this video, there’s a download link for the MOV version, on the right towards the bottom.

Thanks Peter!
The trick of putting a short delay in the feedback loop is one that’s passed me by until now; it’s turned out to be the “extra something” that’s been missing from a particularly weird sound I’ve been working on.

Great post! I had no idea you could tweak Massive to that extent. Intriguing to say the least.

nice! I’m wondering if this type of feedback can be created within Kore with other instuments? i recall the feedback tutorial you posted about this but dont remember if the short delay times were a part of it, i assume it could be easily created.

sowari – these are humble patches but maybe could be the basis for something more interesting…

poorsod – try putting a very slow, very slight LFO modulator on the delay time in the feedback loop. That’s fun too.

nicknack – yup, it approaches modular synths in some of the tricks you can pull off.

AC – it’s been a while since I looked at Eoin’s Kore feedback article but sure, you could throw in a delay if there isn’t one. I think there is. Try some filters too, and a compressor or limiter. Some of the other NI synths have FX versions you can insert into a Kore feedback loop so that’s well worth looking at too.

Peter, what is the plugin you’re using to monitor clipping on the feedback bass patch?

Craig, that’s RNDigital Inspector. It’s free and useful.
